Broadside Heart

Some people jump from airplanes to get a rush. Others race cars, bungee-jump, and sometimes light themselves on fire over and over again to see when Ripley will accept them. Not us. Just like most bands that start out young and never give up, we get our adrenaline from being on stage in front of hundreds of screaming fans. Yeah, we started out just like every band that you hear on your CD’s at home or on the radio - in a best friend’s basement. Your equipment is never that great, your songs and music aren’t either, but eventually you make your way up. Well, we haven’t quite got there yet either. We’ve been together for about a year now and in that time we’ve done a lot of awesome things. We started out as a band that was once named Strictly Platonic (nobody really knew what that meant ) and eventually changed our name and found a new lead singer, Josh Davis. About 3 weeks in we were called and asked to play a show called Exposure where we competed against 60 other great bands. We won that show and from there we started to record with a company called Clayton Studios. We spent a lot of our time at the studio where we hung out with Ryan, the producer, and talked about what happens next. We named the new CD “ Let’s Not Break This.” The CD took its name after a lot of thinking about what Broadside Heart’s future would be like after we released. In the past, we’ve had a lot of people come in and out. The band has had its cliffs to climb and sometimes people weren’t strong enough to hold on. This is how we got the name. This was a reminder for us to stick together and not to forget what we’ve worked so hard to get, not to let being in the band get to our heads, and especially, not to let down our friends, family, and fans. It’s not all sappy like that though. We also found out something cool about the name of the CD. We discovered that if you line up the name of the CD with “Broadside Heart” correctly on the CD case - you can get “ Let’s Not Break This Heart” and we thought that was pretty cool. After the CD came out we started gathering a much larger fan base. We began selling about 15 CD’s per show and sometimes more. This also gave us the opportunity to get more shows and bigger shows. We started playing about twice a month and on occasion - 3-4 times a month. Not to long later a company called AMP Stl / SGM Records heard us and asked us to start playing shows with them. This opened up a lot of doors for us. We started playing with bigger bands, bands that were known city -wide and some state-wide. These were some of the most fun shows that we’ve played. We’ve been playing with bands like this for about 10 months and I never thought we would have this much fun doing it. Sometimes you have a lot of down time where it doesn’t seem like things are going anywhere. And when I say a lot… I mean A LOT. But things always pick back up again. Eventually, we found ties with 89.9 WLCA College Radio and are now being played frequently. Over this time we have written about 5 new songs and are now planning on coming out with a new CD. Soon we will be recording with SGM Records and hopefully the CD will be out in late summer.
