Carlo Ceriani
The technical sophistication of classical music has been combined with improvisational jazz by Italian guitarist, composer, arranger, and director Carlo Ceriani. In addition to recording four impressive solo albums, Ceriani has composed and directed theatrical interpretations of Stravinsky's "Histoire du Soldat," Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," and his original composition "Tribu Arcobaleno (Rainbow Tribe)." His past collaborations include projects with such jazz musicians as Ruuel Brink, Gianni Basso, Bruce Forman, Reggie Workman, and Butch Morris. A native of the Italian city of Verona, Ceriani earned a graduate degree in political science in 1979 and a doctorate in music in 1987. Shortly after his graduation, he placed first in an international composition competition. Ceriani has taught guitar, theory, and arranging and teaches at L.A.M.S. in Verona. He also led music therapy sessions at Verona's Center of Mental Health from 1994 to 1995. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
