xmikexdeaditex's Album Review for Christ the Album
""
Intelligent, anarchist madness.
Crass is a hard band to characterize. You could tie them in with the hundreds of bands that appeared under the anarcho-punk banner, but that would probably be insulting, if not insane. You sometimes can't call them punk, because even that could be degrading to what their message is. All in all, there never was and never will again will be a band quite like them. Christ the Album is their crowning achievement. Taking their force further and using more and more surreal socio-political blasts and a more refined musical style. This record didn't sound like anything that Crass even did. It was something new all together. It was a new form. Now, does it eliminate the rest of what made Crass a driving force in anarchist-tinged punk rock. Of course not. Everything is definitely more discovered on this album, however. The sound clips are just as haunting and relevant as the music is, if not more. The music is tough and unaccessible, yet intelligent and revolutionary. While most punk was singing of what the problem was, Crass had the answer. Even though no one else wanted to hear it, they definitely can own up to being one of the most powerful and nihilistic attacks punk rock has ever delivered to the world.
