Darlin' & Rose

San Diego country duo Darlin' and Rose offer a traditional approach to their whiskey-soaked ballads and honky tonk jams. Aggressively taking the local scene by storm, their true-to-life cowboy ethos and impressive musical experience made them one of the most recognizable Americana acts in the independent world. Darlin' is really Sylvester E. Bowen, the owner of a popular guitar shop in San Diego. Growing up with a country singer/songwriter as a father, he took to the music at an early age. In fact, his father was also a blacksmith who built wagons for Hollywood movie and television sets. In a bizarre twist of fate, Bowen grew up riding the same horse that television cowboy Little Joe rode in the classic American series Bonanza. As for Rose, she is really known as Nisha, an actress/musician that grew up playing the guitar and performing her own country songs. After graduating from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, she started a band on the Sunset Strip and tried to make a living in Los Angeles. Disillusioned with the area, Nisha moved to San Diego and started writing with Bowen almost immediately. Recording their eponymous debut in 2001, the duo quickly became a hit because of their raw, honest approach to a genre that had been associated with stylish, mainstream pop songs. A year later, Tomorrow, Yesterday won them accolades from the underground traditionalist country scene that had sprung up in the wake of the alternative country boom of the 90's. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
