Dave Evans
This musician would be the obvious choice if a granite-solid rhythm section was desired in a combo made up entirely of musicians named Dave Evans. Sometimes confused with the original singer for AC/DC or a bluegrass banjoist, this Dave Evans is neither. He hails from the Baltimore area and is best-known as a bassist in blues bands, leaning toward the house-rocking variety of music. Evans sings and plays guitar as well, so he has been chipping away at the shift in concept required of his hometown audience in order to move toward the center of the stage. He leads Dave Evans and the Infamous Blueshounds, and has recorded solo material, such as a cover of Jerry " Boogie" McCain's "Messin' With Me Baby" in the company of cool drummer Mike Kuhl.
As a rhythm section player, Evans' main collaborations have been with Holyfield and the Kelly Bell Band. The latter combo provided the first extensive display of Evans' creative talents on disc in 1998. The bassist was in on the composing process of eight of the published titles on Phat Blues Music -- at least according to the leader's decision regarding credits for these pieces -- with subject matter ranging from the ultraliberal scent of "Homegrown" to a totally uptight visit from the "F.B.I."." ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
