Dave Phillips
Bassist Dave Phillips was the replacement for Brian Holmburg in an Ohio-based heavy metal band called Embalmer. Listeners who feel the preoccupation with death is tasteless in this style of music should admit that in this case the combo's name at least demonstrates an interest in the practical, even mundane side of joining the hereafter. Death metal fans should also be consoled that this is purely a superficial impression; Phillips joined the band in time for an album considered to be a classic in the genre: entitled There Was Blood Everywhere, the 1997 release features such wholesome titles as "Bloodsucking Freaks," "May the Wounds Bleed Forever," and "Rotten Body Fluids."
Despite such evidence, it might be surmised that Phillips was indeed dissatisfied with the amount of blood being sprayed about during an average musical Embalm-ing, leaving the group to join a combo with a name suggesting much more in the way of red sticky goop, none other than the infamous Miscarraige. Moving on to an even more disgusting subject, stylistic labels, Phillips should be proud that Embalmer is considered the first grindcore outfit to come out of Ohio. His replacement in the group was Rob Lesniak -- certainly qualified for the position, having already played in Nunslaughter, Necrotic Disgorgement, Dislimb, and Gutrot. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
