David Cleary

David Cleary (b. 1954) is a classical music composer and cellist who also has a keen interest in and knowledge of rock music. He received a D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati, M.M. from the Hartt College of Music, and B.M. from the New England Conservatory, with all degrees in music composition. His works have been performed and broadcast throughout the U.S., Europe, and Australia, including festival performances at Tanglewood and Warebrook. He has received numerous prizes, grants, commissions, and arts colony residencies, including First Prize in the Harvey Gaul Composition Contest, an Ella Lyman Cabot Trust Grant, and colony residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo. His music appears on CD on the Centaur, Vienna Modern Masters, and Arcadian Winds labels, and his article on composing careers is published by Gale Research. His bio appears in the latest Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and similar publications of this type. He is currently president and co-director of Composers in Red Sneakers. His specialty areas include classical music of all types, as well as chart-oriented rock music from the 1950's to the 1970's and punk/independent rock from the 1970's and 1980's.
