Death is not a joyride.
Death is not a joyride is an avant-garde/experimental band known for their high energy shows, complex recordings and strong theatric/visual elements. Interested in exploring storybook-like concepts and allegories, they often test the boundaries of composition and performance. The group is known for their manic lead singer, bizarre instrumentation and for throwing rose petals at fans in the crowd. The Austin Chronicle Music Awards (2006) recently named Death is not a joyride as the 8th Best Experimental Band in Austin. Death is not a joyride played several notable shows including a "Halloween in Wonderland" performance in 2006 complete with live video and costumes based on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. They also played with Slick Idiot (featuring members of Pigface and ex-KMFDM) and were part of Emo's Biscuit Fest, a tribute to Austin legend Randy "Biscuit" Turner. During Emo's 15th Anniversary Week (2007), Death is not a joyride was invited to open for experimental electronic act Gang Gang Dance. In September they will be embarking on their first tour with Greyday recording artist Polly Panic of Portland, Oregon. These groundskeepers have been hard at work sowing seeds, and at this point they are preparing to expand their botanical garden and include animal elements. Death is not a joyride recently recorded their first full length concept album entitled "The Human Zoo." It was nursed and recorded by producer John Congleton (the pAper chAse, The polyphonic spree, explosions in the sky) and will be available late 2007.
