DecadeZ

Young Decadez Biography Death, Incarceration, Cancer, words that paint a picture of my life and my story. My government name is Arcale Turner also known as Young Decadez. I am 17 years old and was born in Hollyhood, CA. At the age of 7, I started my journey into music by performing at local and family events but it wasn’t until 4 years later when tragedy hit that I grew to find healing and love in the art of music production and lyrical dialogue. Chapter 1: When I was 11, I suffered the lost of my auntie, which devastated my entire family. Two months later my grandmother died. The lost of my grandma was extremely hard because she was my universe and one of the only people encouraging me to excel and to work harder at music and in life. The average kid my age is learning how to multiply and find Ireland on a map however I’m trying to deal with the lost of my aunt and grandma. To make matters worst my bestfriend who I was in a rap group with died 5 months later due to head injuries just 15 minutes after we got off the phone. Life was suffocating me and I didn’t know who, what, when and why? At that point I became very depressed and decided to just be a solo artist and carry on the legacy that my bestfriend, grandma and auntie would have wanted. Chapter 2: Music was my medicine and after a couple of months I started to do beats and writes rhymes. I decided I would sell my production to help my mother pay for rent, groceries, and necessary household items. I spent weeks and weeks on the internet and around town trying to sell my beats but most people said I wasn’t talented, and that I should stop trying to makes beats…but I kept trying. I was looking for at least one MC who would take a chance with me and came across a rapper name, Flam-bee. When I first contacted him, he said he didn’t buy beats and that he wasn’t rich but I let him hear my beats. He stated that I had potential but wasn’t at the level I needed to be to sell my tracks…but if I stick with him, with time things would change. For Christmas I was blessed with a home studio and Flam-bee and I made numerous songs for about 3-4 months and this was a new beginning in my journey to self-fulfillment. Chapter 3: While I was traveling down my new path of self-fulfillment I got slapped in the face with reality. Two weeks after Flam-bee and I took a break from recording, an incident happened with the KKK. Me and some friends were being attacked by the Klan down the street from where I was living. Luckily one of my friends ran to my mother and told her that I was about to be stabbed, and feeling threatened my mom showed up with a 9mm. As she approached one of the KKK told her that she was going to go to jail because she was black and then proceeded to shove my mom. My mom in return pushed him back and when he cocked his fist back to swing at my mom, my mother shot at the ground to warn them that she was not the one to be played with. We then went home but that wasn’t the end of the confrontation. After 8 months of court cases and testimonies and so-called friends disassociating themselves, plus a lackluster and crocked lawyer, my mother was locked up and sentenced to jail. Chapter 4: Music being my only outlet, I decided to do an album and call it, “ProblemZ”. It seemed like everything was going wrong for me, so I thought I would release a CD that mapped out my journey and tell my story. The CD, “ProblemZ” dropped March 2003. I got radio airplay on WVOF in Connecticut and at DePaul University in New York as well as at parties, school and other events within my town. I was also invited to an invitation only music festival in New York. Chapter 5: My life has not been a crystal stair, and all the events that have happen has made me who I am. Although I don’t trust most people I do know that I have a family that will carry me if my wings get tired. I still have problems in my life like my aunt battling with cancer and my other aunt having lupus and bills that have to be paid in order for me and my mom to survive when she gets out. Yes I am 15, but I have a lot more to rap about than the average MC twice my age. I know that to some all that I have and am going through would crush their spirit but I look at it as motivation to work harder like my grandma encouraged me to do so that one day I can look back and saw, that the storm does pass over. This concludes MY story but remember I don’t rap just because…I don’t produce for fun…I do it because it’s my medicine and it helps me cure my troubled life and aids in my journey to self-fulfillment.
