Devils Wielding Scimitars
Driven by the low, haunting, Natalie Merchant-like vocals of Suzy Callahan, Devils Wielding Scimitars have crafted a combination of group improvisation and hook-laden melodies that they describe as "minimalistic psychedelic folk." Formed in the suburbs of Maryland, Devils Wielding Scimitars recorded their first two albums -- Curious Soul in 1989 and Worry Dolls in 1991 -- as a quartet featuring guitarist Scott Tyburski, bassist Michael Baker, drummer Brandon Finley, and Callahan on vocals. Their third album, III, released in 1997, featured a reorganized group with new drummer Kevin Morales joining holdovers Tyburski on guitar and Callahan, who played bass in addition to singing. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
