Dianogah

The Chicago post-rock unit Dianogah comprised bassists Jay Ryan and Jason Harvey in tandem with drummer Kip McCabe. The group debuted in 1995 with the single "100% Tree," followed early the next year by "Garden Airplane Trap; " these two seven-inches were subsequently collected as the EP Old Material, New Format. Dianogah's first full-length effort, As Seen From Above, was released in 1997; a series of compilation appearances -- including contributions to Zum Audio Vol. 2 and the Reach the Rock soundtrack -- constituted the trio's output in the months to follow, with Battle Champions finally appearing in mid-2000. The following spring, Dianogah released the single Hannibal / A Bear Explains.... A third full-length studio effort, Millions of Brazilians was issued in spring 2002. John McEntire, who's known for his production work with Tortoise, The Sea and Cake, and Bastro, assisted Dianogah on their most cohesive work to date. The Rachel's Rachel Grimes and John Upchurch of The Coctails also guested on Millions of Brazilians. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
