snide's Album Review for The Last Broadcast

Reviews... they mean nothing....
Before "The Last Brodcast" I would have simply associated The Doves as yet another brit act lost in the neo-pyschadela movement being championed by bands like "The Coral" or even "Gorky's Zygotic Mynci". The Doves first album Lost Souls ambitious as it was, got lost in a glut of impressive british rock albums that seemed to blossom out of the late 90s due to it's restrained tempo and somewhat cloudy sound.
The Last Broadcast, in contrast, shares very little with Lost Souls outside of another cool album cover. It's sound is leaps ahead both sonically and in focus. Where 'Souls' songs seemed to be a collection of mismatched EPs "The Last Broadcast" is a sprawling wave of energy that seems to grow with each song. Incorporating everything from hand claps to Bends era, Ed O'Brian style backup wails it definitely has more feeling to it.
I'll come back to finish the review when I have time. :)
