Lil_Goose's Album Review for New Orleans Suite
""
Another Ellington Masterpiece
The New Orleans Suite, well some people say that American Jazz started in New Orleans and the further out guys reckon it started in Philadelphia, where John Coltrane lived. Louis Armstrong came from New Orleans and thank the Heavens that they both eventuated.
The first track on this Album would be good for Blues (Electric) Players listen to. But that is very hard to convince them to take the time to listen. The first track is A Shuffle with an unbelieveable groove, the Bass Playing is really get down and dirty and with the drums makes Ellington's Orchestra groove and it is a 12 bar blues, like most Electric Blues Players play all the time. But, Ellington has all these Masters of their instruments, perfectionists and when each player takes a solo the band changes key each time and the thing builds and buids on each Key change. What a great track. Ellington's portraits of each person mentioned on each track portrays their sound and feel perfectly. His Portrait of all the greats are spot on. One of my Favorite tracks is Blues from the Delta or the "beautiful Delta" of the Mississippi River ( spelling ok? ). When you listen to the Orchestration and the actual composition you can imagine a very peaceful river delta, he portrays everything perfectly and your imagination can take you to where or what he is writing about. This Album is a must for Jazz Fans and Rock Blues, Electric Blues and all blues players, as there really is no difference when they have the Magic Groove. TEN STARS.
