Earl Grey

Earl Grey, the duo of Ron Well and Paul Frazer Clarke, have often been tagged with the same idea as suits their name; like the quintessentially English cup of tea, Well and Frazer Clarke's music has a bit of jump, but is basically enjoyed sitting in your living room. With a production style focusing on muscular (if not exactly hard-hitting) drum'n'bass which subtracts the lengthy intros and breakdowns of dance-based jungle in favor of four-minute bursts of breakbeats, the pair began by collaborating with jungle pioneer Fabio as well as pop stars like Boy George and Peter Gabriel. Earl Grey began recording on their own in the mid-'90s with singles for Rugged Vinyl Records, and found a home on Worldwide Ultimatum for 1997's Purveyors of the New Groove. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
