Sarah Assbring, the sole member behind El Perro Del Mar, began working on From The Valley To The Stars during the spring and summer of 2007. The recordings were done in her own studio in Gothenburg. Sarah explains that she "tried to let the recording process be as free and organic as possible. Many takes are first ones. In contrary to my first album which generally was guitar oriented, I mostly play the piano or organ on this one. I myself have been in charge of all recording, production and mixing." Having already released an LP and several EP's, Sarah focussed on making From The Valley To The Stars "something that in its character might appear more like a hymn or a psalm but in a pop costume." However, this is not to take away anything from her beautiful voice and music. “El Perro del Mar has not only avoided the sophomore slump that plagues so many singer/songwriters, she may have even surpassed the triumph of her debut. Assbring has proved, once again, that she can accomplish more in a few phrases than most songwriters can with piles of verbiage,” says Under The Radar.
