Elisinha Coelho was the launcher of "No Rancho Fundo" (Ary Barroso), having been -- with Silvinha Melo, Orlando Silva, Nuno Roland, Marília Batista, and Aracy de Almeida -- one of the first singers on Rádio Nacional specialized in Brazilian music. Having performed many times at the Cassino da Urca (Rio de Janeiro), in some occasions in duo with international artists like Jean Sablon and Pedro Vargas, Coelho also launched several other songs by Barroso (up to 11, from the total of 30 recorded by her), such as "Batuque" (in duo with Sílvio Caldas), "Tenho Saudade," "Minha Palmeira Triste," (with Lamartine Babo), and "Caco Velho." Coelho had her first invitation to perform on radio in 1929, debuting in the Rádio Clube do Brasil (Rio de Janeiro). In the next year, she recorded her first 78 rpm album with "A Minha Viola é de Primeira" and "Capelinha de Melão" (both by Tia Amélia). By the end of 1930, she was invited by Heckel Tavares to a series of recitals through the northeast in which the duo interpreted songs by the composer. In 1931, she was invited by Ary Barroso to record his "No Rancho Fundo" (backed by the very Barroso at the piano and by Rogério Guimarães on guitar), which would become a classic of Brazilian popular music. The song made her famous throughout the country and she performed in 1935 and 1936 in Argentina. Having been a member of the cast of the Rádio Nacional since its foundation in 1936, Coelho signed with the Rádio Mayrink Veiga soon afterwards. ~ Alvaro Neder, All Music Guide
