THE JOHNNYS now on mp3.com!
I just finished the profile for my band THE JOHNNYS, so please check it out!!
New Emma-O mp3's
So I added a bunch of new mp3's...they're old rehearsal or live tracks from a few years back. They aren't professionally recorded, so don't expect perfect sound quality. But they're raw and real and that's how I like it! :-)
Check them out!
Update on Emma-O
Well I have been very busy with my band THE JOHNNYS over the past 10 months orso. So we took July off to do things like go on vacation, renovate houses, etc. But a lot of exciting things have happened, and continue to happen. We recently released our 13-song debut CD titled, "I Like it A Lot", and we are also the featured band for Spirit Magazine's annual music issue. Spirit is Canada's national magazine for Aboriginal arts & culture. The issue, featuring Veronica Johnny on the cover, is on newsstands as I type this.
The Johnnys were also on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). Veronica Johnny and I were interviewed for the show "Entertainment Beat", which aired some time in June, I believe.
I have also released a bunch of my own material. I now have the ability to convert cassettes to CD's, so I went on a bender and converted a whole whack of my old rehearsal tapes that contain songs I have never released before. Of course the sound quality isn't the greatest, but it's raw and real, and that's what I like. I've been trying to delete my old tracks and upload some of these new ones, but mp3.com's not letting me right now, for some reason. Anyway, I'll try later! For now, you can find ALL my songs, including the previously-unreleased ones, by clicking the link below:

Emma-O Update June 2007
** THE JOHNNYS have released our debut CD on Thursday, May 24. It is titled, "I Like It A Lot" and features 13 songs. To order a copy, please check out The Johnnys site: www.thejohnnys.com or send an email to info@thejohnnys.com. Or alternatively, you can drop me a message here. But I only check this site maybe once a week!
** I have recently released 3 never-before heard Emma-O tracks. They are live, raw rehearsal tracks recorded in 2003 when I had a 2-piece punk band called Pimpinella. I will be uploading 2 of the tracks to mp3.com in the near future. One is cover, so I won't be uploading it as I don't own the copyright. For now, you can hear the tracks posted at my site:
LITTLE ONE -- http://www.emma-o.net/Music/LittleOne_mp3.mp3
ALL -- http://www.emma-o.net/Music/All_mp3.mp3
SLIVER (Nirvana cover) -- http://www.emma-o.net/Music/Sliver_mp3.mp3
I have also recently converted another dozen or so tracks from cassette to digital. Most, if not all, of these songs have never been heard before (except by my former band members and anyone who saw us play, of course).

Emma-O
I have been a musician for 15 years. I grew up on punk rock, and my favourite bands when I was a kid are my favourites today--The Clash, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, X, The Go-Go's, Joy Division, The Neighborhoods...I always loved music that was melodic and passionate.
I also listened to The Beatles a lot as a kid. And the Bay City Rollers, Joan Jett, Queen and 70's rock. Later I got into metal and that lasted for several years. But I always held on to my punk roots. I'm glad I explored other styles of music because they have molded my playing and writing into what it is today.
In the early 90's I started getting into Nirvana, L7 and the whole grunge thing. That was when I started seriously playing guitar and jamming with people. It was a very productive time period and I learned a lot. I think I really developed my style in those first few years. I jammed a lot to my L7 and Nirvana tapes, and I learned a lot of old punk stuff too. I was also really into playing heavy, so I learned all this hardcore stuff like The Exploited, and also metal like Megadeth and Metallica.
In more recent years, I've discovered the art of psychedelia, and improvised noise. In about 1997 or '98, I played guitar in a band called Trans Love Airways. I believe everything happens for a reason, and this band opened the doorway to some different musical worlds for me. I discovered psychedelia, noise, drone, the beauty of occilation, delay, reverb and other alternative sounds. I didn't quite grasp it at first, but I knew all along that I liked it. It just took me a while to "get it".
Now I love to play chaotic, nonsensical noise on the guitar. It really is interesting music. When you can find people who can let go in that same way and just let the music flow, it can be a real exhilerating and interesting experience. I play music like this in my band Dronica. We are a 2-piece, with myself on guitar and my friend Jaroslaw on accordion. He also plays with the Cowboy Junkies, but is doing this psychedelic-noise thing on the side. But I'll write more about Dronica later...
As it stands now, I play in 4 bands:
Dronica (psychedelic, experimental)
The Impatiens (old-school punk rock)
Fidget (all-girl pop-punk)
The Johnnys (garage-punk-rock)
and I also have my own projects:
The Gloom (sadcore-goth-alt)
Emma-O (what I file my music under that I'm not playing in any of my bands)
I manage to do this because only 2 of my projects are serious, meaning we practice regularly and there's a lot of time devoted to them. The other projects are either just for fun, or I can do them on my own time. Anyway, I'll write more about each of my projects later!
