Fascinating Aida is a cabaret group more or less led by Dilly Keane since 1983. Most of the songs over the years have been written by a partnership of Dilly and Adèle Anderson. The group has a slightly floating membership...
After a music course at Trinity College, Dublin, in the 1970s, Dillie came to London for acting training at LAMDA. Together with Marilyn Cutts and Lizzie Richardson, she created Fascinating Aïda as a cabaret group in a wine bar in West End Lane, London, in March, 1983.
From the beginning, the songs were clever and funny - a feminine hybrid of Tom Lehrer, Lotte Lenya, Gilbert and Sullivan, Monty Python, and Madonna. In 1989, Fascinating Aïda went into hibernation for a while, but the group was re-formed in 1994. Occasionally, it mounts a farewell tour, but somehow none of them to date has proved to be truly terminal.
The albums of Fascinating Aida (all available on CD) are:
Sweet F.A. (1985)
A Load of Old Sequins (1987)
Live At The Lyric (1994)
It, Wit, Don't Give a Shit Girls (1997)
Barefaced Chic (1999)
One Last Flutter (2003)
Absolutely Fascinating (2004)
The miscellaneous ladies of Fascinating Aida over the years are -
Dillie Keane (March 1983 - present)
Adèle Anderson (1987 - present)
Liza Pulman (present)
Marilyn Cutts (March 1983 - March 1986)
Lizzie Richardson (March - October 1983)
Glenda Smith (October - December 1983)
Denise Wharmby (August 1986 - April 1989)
Issy van Randwyck (March 1994 - July 1999)
Charlotte Nytzen (February 2000)
The group's current pianist is Russell Churney.
