Flight 27 is an influential bay area figure in Hip Hop underground, keeping the sophisticated lyrical technique and flowing syncopations of jazz, funk and soul alive in an era when commercial and unconscious rap threaten to obliterate everything in its path. His literate and intelligent style as well as his street savy has been able to win a devoted cult audience. Flight 27 was born in Oakland California, an area that has produced notable musical movements but still lacks the recognition of the east coast counterparts. Nonetheless, he honed his skills as a writer, producer and lyric formidable with any of the major players. The debut of his first official release in 2003 with the self titled debut album “Flight 27” was able to grab some international airplay on French radio stations and across the net. With his family full of musicians his late great grandfather Carey “jabo” Callahan an late brother George Callahan Jr were two of his biggest influences. While he was a child he heard stories of his grandfather playing Rag time piano and had dreams of how those times must have been. In 1983 they moved from Oakland California to Fairfield California to avoid the huge crack epidemic that sent Oakland into a Tailspin. He and Longtime friend Chad Crall started Epictone Records and began recording “the now underground classic “Dirt broke and addicted’. Flight would later sign to Ideal Concepts America L.L.C. where his has been able to retain his flexibility and creativity . His up and coming album Flight Risk will be released later this year.
