Begun in Italy in 1985, Floating State was started by Gigi "Lugifer" Ferri, Mimmo "Subterranean" Ferri, and Fabrizio "Bonzo" Binetti. The trio recruited Michele "Anarchia" Moschini as their vocalist. They originally settled on Gianfranco Aresta as bassist, but eventually replaced him with Carlo Cavaniglia. Cavaniglia stayed with the group until 1996 when he was replaced by Claudio Signorile. Floating State broke up for a time in 1998, but were back at it the following year. This time they had a new drummer in the personage of Beatrice "Bruford" Birardi. The sound of the group was enhanced by the addition of a saxophonist (Grazia Stella).
