Fra Senegal Til Setesdal
The musical traditions of West Africa are combined with the folk music of Norway by Setesdal, Norway-based quartet, Fra Senegal Til Setesdal. With the vocals and Jew's harp playing of Norwegian natives Kirsten Braten Berg and Bjergulu Straume set to the melodic strings of Senegal-born Solo Cisokho's kora and the rhythms of Cote d'Ivorie-born Koriame Sereba's drums, the group seamlessly blends distinct cultural roots. The inspiration for Fra Senegal Til Setesdal was sparked, in 1995, shortly after Berg and Straume met Cissokho and Sereba, who had emigrated to Norway. Berg had previously performed Norwegian folk music as a soloist and as a member of the Arild Andersen Group. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
