Gabriel of Sedona

In addition to being an author and a spiritual leader in Sedona, Arizona, new age guru Gabriel of Sedona augments his thought and writings with religious devotional music, backed by his Bright and Morning Star Band. Gabriel's original career was as a musician; he sang on street corners at age six and was performing with harmony groups at 12. At 16, he cut some R&B sides, and later embarked on a stint as a nightclub jazz singer. Gabriel studied theology at Duquesne University and, among other things, worked as a prison chaplain; his spirituality found its way into his music in the early '70s, as his compositions began to blend gospel and pop. He later fused this sound with new age music and bits of other contemporary genres, a style he described as "CosmoPop." Today, as leader of the Aquarian Concepts Community, Gabriel uses his music to elucidate his religious ideas and promote unity and harmony. CosmoWorship I was a cassette-only release of original hymns sung by Gabriel's Bright and Morning Star Choir; his Holy City, featuring Gabriel backed by the Bright and Morning Star Band, was released in 1997 on his own Gabriel Records label. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
