Houston-based act that was the first group signed to C.L. Milburn's Sea Ell label. George Washington & the Cherry Stompers specialized in garage punk and psychedelic punk, with a tendency toward swirling organ arabesques in their songs, sometimes working in minor keys as with their debut single, "The Back Shelf of Your Mind," released in 1967.
