George Washington & The Cherry Stompers
Houston-based act that was the first group signed to C.L. Milburn's Sea Ell label. George Washington & the Cherry Stompers specialized in garage punk and psychedelic punk, with a tendency toward swirling organ arabesques in their songs, sometimes working in minor keys as with their debut single, "The Back Shelf of Your Mind," released in 1967. They featured organ and guitar as lead instruments, and vocally they were relatively undistinguished, despite a powerful lead singer and attempts to incorporate harmony singing into their work. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
