it will fit in quite nicely with your vintage shoegazer collection
Personally, I am weary of any group that receives comparisons to My Bloody Valentine or the Pixies. I mean, let's face it, those groups created a sound where there was none--everyone else simply followed by example. Flipping through Giant Drag's press kit, I began rolling my eyes at the numerous comparisons to Kevin Shields, Kim Deal, and (believe it or not) the Beach Boys. So I did what anyone would do: I tossed the album into the "maybe someday" pile and moved on. Well, eventually someday came and, oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Giant Drag does in fact conjure aesthetic similarities to their influences, but ultimately they create a delicious and undeniable fresh take on noise-pop. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Annie Hardy glides across songs with a subdued rage that is immediately endearing, and much like PJ Harvey, brims with a nervous sexuality. The duo's sound is simultaneously abrasive and soothing, and it will fit in quite nicely with your vintage shoegazer collection.
