Giovanni Battista Conforti
This Italian composer, theorist and singer was primarily known for his singing abilities and theoretical elaborations. His primary theoretical work discusses the conventions employed by the musicians of his day with a description of common intervals, cadences and ornamentation. Conforti clearly indicated adjustments that can be made by different singers when performing "passagi" (embellished passages) and he also indicated what type of passagi were best suited for particular vertical harmonies. In the non-theoretical aspects of his legacy, Conforti redacted compilations of psalms, motets, antiphonal pieces as well as arrangements for Magnificats. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
