::glint::
Glint: a little bright spot in a world of darkness, formed a few years ago inside the mind of 20 year old singer/songwriter/guitarist Jase Blankfort. Less than 6 months ago, the band independently funded and released their first full length record, Mode to Joy , fashioned as an original infusion of “jambient rock,” “space pop,” and “mélange-stream.” Glint’s live performance of "Mode To Joy" (see videos available at www.myspace.com/glintonline) is the most prominent force propelling the success of the band and their recent string of sold-out shows. Soon after hearing rough album mixes, artist Paul Kostabi offered to prepare all album art and photography, pro bono, for this highly anticipated grassroots release. From the stage to their studio work, Glint forges a connection with a growing fanbase that one admirer described flawlessly as “an intonation created between artist and listener rivaling a first crush.” Critics have been equally as smitten with the boys. "The response from our listeners after playing Glint on the air told us that we had something special. I saw a show for myself, and I can easily say it was the best concert I've seen in New York City in a LONG time." ," said Mike Batiste, DJ for "New York's Backyard" 107.1 FM The Peak . Similar sentiments have poured in from scores of other industry made-men, including Grammy-award winning producers Michael Beinhorn and Kyle and Jason Lehning. “Brilliant,” said Pete Harris, publisher of Indie Sound NY and founder of HarrisRadio.com, on the outfit’s output, “…a sound that is well beyond their years.” The primary source of this lauded output is Jase Blankfort, who, at 20, has already garnished his resume with a variety of entertainment gigs. The enigmatic frontman began singing in theatrical productions on Broadway at the age of 10, and the experience shows. Robert Bieselin, features writer for The Bergen Record recalls, "[Blankfort's] voice, a tumultuous baritenor, cuts through fluctuating verse like softened butter, peaking over both fragile musings and near-violent screams, only to duck with the arrival of soft movements into pouting bass-born whispers both earnest and chilling." When paired with lyrics that mirror their medium’s intensity and style, Blankfort’s voice and verse are both impossible to categorize and impossible to ignore. Still vocal prowess and refined language are only one piece of the essence defining Glint’s auditory concoctions. While Blankfort wails on the mic bemusing over his thought-sodden lines like a stage-assured Jeff Buckley, the boys to his rear work just as vigorously in scaffolding his aptly-equipped voice with bounding blues-jam backgrounds that lend themselves as readily to Blankfort’s honeyed voice and near-math-rock riffs, as they do to raucous 15 minute instrumental fusions. You can read up on the Glint fellas, among other places, in an upcoming issue of Billboard Magazine, the July issue of High Times, The Journal News, Indie-music.com, and online at USA4Real.com (where they were chosen as Los Angeles' April featured act). G-UPDATE: See Glint at Musikfest 2007 , playing their first festival show to thousands of people, opening for The Moody Blues! August 7th in Bethlehem, PA. Visit www.fest.org for more info.
