Brief Artist Biography The GMAN's Electric Guitar Style is a throw-back to Stanley Clarke, Played with the passion of Stevie Ray Vaughn, all intertwined with R&B, Funk, and Rock. Born Gerald L. Smith September 2,1960 in Newark,New Jersey was given a radio at the age of 4 from his Mother and by age 12, he began playing the electric guitar and jammin with neighborhood friends until the age of 14. At this age,he was given the opportunity to supplement his talent by working as a concert stage hand for groups such as; Earth,Wind & Fire, Ramsey Lewis, and The Emotions when touring in the New York/New Jersey area in the summer of 1974. This was the juice that sweetened the taste of music for the GMAN and the Bass Guitar that would become his trade mark. By age 17, he was introduced to Bassist William "Earl" Martin and the Sounds of Stanley Clarke, thus inspiring his love for Jazz. By age 18, the GMAN turned semi-pro performing and recording with local bands and at age 20, he met Guitarist Richard Miller and his friends Gene"O"Thomas and his brother, Keith Thomas, whose father Grady"Grade A"Thomas is an original member of the Parlimentary Funkadelic sparking his PFunk Style of music and groups such as; The Electric Connection, Shade II, Qaddara, JAG, and Unfinished Business just to name a few. Not to be type casted as a musician only, The GMAN began Producing such local Hip-Hop Artists as; BabyGirl,(signed to Perfect Pair Records in 1992) and having a cameo appearance in the "BabyGirl Stompin" video aired on cable networks by NYC's "Ready or Not Productions Inc. as well as recording Battle Rhymes for Poppa Bear,(1992-93 Hip-Hop Seminar World Champion). In 1999, The GMAN appeared at the "20th Annual Rap Masters Competitions" as a Panel Judge held at the "New Jersey Performing Arts Center" in Newark, N.J. and returning to "NJPAC" in 2000 as Bassist for Folk/R&B Singer Chinua Hawk,(Shin-Wah) in the Summer Jazz Concert Series. Along the way GMAN has played,recorded and worked with countless Independent & Industry Recording Artists,Producers,Recording Engineers,Djs,musicians,Sound Designers,Motion Picture & Broadway Actors/Actresses enabling the GMAN to become an independent International Artist with multible CD's released to his credits to date.
