Goats in Trees
Goats in Trees are a work in progress. The married duo of Jason and Monica Ann Crigler started the group in their native Brooklyn in 1997, perfecting their own acoustic, folk-influenced sound. When the Morning Comes, self-released in 1998, illustrated Goats in Trees' love for such artists as Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, and Davey Graham. Gigs in and around New York allowed Goats in Trees to build a following and gain airplay among East Coast college radio. With the addition of bassist Jeff Hill, Goats in Trees shaped their music into something more tangible by the decade's end. Rock and blues were now part of the formula; it was carefree and earthy, but spiritual and emotional, and sophomore effort, Smoke and Mirrors (2002), showcased such artistic beauty. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
