honeybuzzer's Artist Review for Gor Mkhitarian
""
Replay value
Gor falls somewhere between Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and Dave Matthews.
The tracks on Yeraz are all in Armenian, so if you don't know much Armenian you won't know what he's talking about specifically--but you'll still catch the feeling he conveys. Essentially it turns his voice into another instrument, which he plays well, along with his catchy guitar work.
When I don't know what I feel like listening to, I find myself putting this album on more and more. It's got more replay value than anything else I've heard lately (maybe because I don't get sick of the words) I also think it's great that he's been able to update some classic Armenian folk tunes into music that fits into modern life.
