Guglielmo Miniscalchi
Miniscalchi was an Augustinian monk and composer who was most popular for his three books of airs. Each book contained twenty songs and they were clearly written for the publisher so that he could easily sell the product given the lack of complexity and severity in the music. Clearly the pieces were composed for music in the home. `Structurally' his music was uninteresting and perhaps even uninspiring but the melodic lines and tunefulnes of the songs were pleasant and pleasing to the ear. The actual shapes of the melodic lines were also aesthetically charming. Works in the third book were composed in triple time which was quite appealing to the public. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
