staindcoldlp's Album Review for Beyond Hell
""
Die hard fans need only apply.
Gwar, love them or hate them, are back once again. One would think that teaming up with legendary metal producer Devin Townsend would help Gwar make an amazing record. The result is something that only diehard Gwar fans will love.
I love Gwar, I really do, but I can't say in good mind that "Beyond Hell" was good. For those of you who don't know, "Beyond Hell" is a concept album that chronicles Gwar's journey through hell, meeting various new characters along the way until they meet the leader of hell itself. On paper it sounds like a brilliant idea for Gwar. A brilliant idea that should have never been made a reality.
The whole album has nothing exciting going for it. The music is typical metal music with the typical disgusting and distrubing lyrics of vocalist Oderus Urungus. Really the only positive thing I can say about the album is the Alice Cooper cover of "School's Out". Even then I can't recommend this album what so ever.
I'm a big fan of both Devin Townsend's producing and Gwar. Both were a let down thnks to this album.
