henrynhenry's Album Review for Cracked Rear View

Cracked Rear View is one of the major staples of mid-90s pop rock.
Cracked Rear View is one of the major staples of mid-90s pop rock, and one listen shows why. The album is filled with some of most recognizable melodies of the era, with "Hold My Hand" , "Let Her Cry" , "Only Wanna Be With You" and "Time." The rest of the album is filled with songs that somewhat attempt other styles of music and rhythms, but don't really transcend as they are supposed to. The musicians are tight and many of the solos are played and phrased perfectly. You can give Hootie credit for a successful (and still accessible) pop debut, but the 11 songs don't really offer much more than catchy melodies.

This isn't an essential release except for diehard Hootie fans, but it's worth a listen.
