Hoyry-Kone

Finnish band Höyry-kone (translation: Steam Engine) began in 1991. The group was formed by Jussi Kärkkäinen (guitar) and Teemu Hänninen (drums). After going through quite a few personnel changes, they settled on a lineup in 1995, which consisted of Kärkkäinen, Hänninen, Jarno Sarkula (bass), Tuomas Hänninen (guitar), Topi Lehtipuu (vocals), Jukka Hannukainen (vocals and keys), Nina Lehos (oboe), and Marko Manninen (cello). That was the lineup when their first album, Hyönteisiä Voi Rakastaa, was released. Two years later in 1997, the group released Huono Parturi. The group contributed their interpretation of the Iron Maiden classic "The Trooper" to a tribute album called Slave to Power. The latest incarnation of the group consists of Kärkkäinen, Hänninen, Sarkula, Manninen, Erno Haukkala (trombone), and Matti Jalava (vocals and keys). ~ Gary Hill, All Music Guide
