By combining a reverb energy with the traditions of obscure 60s surf-punk, the Hypnotic IV proclaimed the trademark sound of hypnofonic. Originating in Sacramento, California, the four-piece of Jay Lemen (guitar), Mike Clark (bass), Tony Cale (drums) and Andy Vaughan (guitar) first got together in 1997 without any use of a vocalist.
