Illuminati

Taking their name from the shadowy, secret society rumored to antagonize the Catholic Church, Toronto, Canada's the Illuminati formed in 2003 with the more realistic (but equally admirable) goal of antagonizing all those who would deny the holy gospel of Rock & Roll. After playing together for nearly a decade in a garage-metal band called Tchort (not to be confused with the Norwegian black metal star, so named), vocalist/guitarist Les Godfrey and bassist/vocalist Nick Sewell turned their attentions to a new project through which they literally sought musical enlightenment, thus launching the Illuminati with ex-Nice Cat drummer Jim Gering, and recording a six-song, 16-minute EP which soon became a sensation across Canada. Released internationally in 2005, the EP helped land the group touring gigs with bands as diverse as Alice Cooper, the Darkness, Danko Jones and the Tea Party, and led to a 2006 follow-up album, On Borrowed Time, released by Liquor and Poker, and showcasing the group's inspired new take on classic rock. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
