Eddie32205's Album Review for Get Rad
""
Long time fan says that...
This CD is, and always will be, one of the greatest albums to have been released in my lifetime.
The disc kicks off with a mid-tempo track titled "Homesick" that does a good job of showing where the band is at this point as a group...homesick after seeing what the country is like after touring for months on end off the release of their previous album IN RECOVERY (which is also a very well-written album...if you don't have it, buy it...now!)
Over the course of the album we are treated to the genius and flexibility that is INSPECTION 12. We get a piano-rock song called "Feelin' Like Freddie" (very Ben Folds-ish), a southern-rock song on Track 4 in "Labels are for Cans" and a very jokey, yet surprisingly catchy Track 7 "The Naked At School Dream" that features a banjo, wood block, and cornball (if not laughable) lyrics.
As we near the last half of the songs, we are treated to old classics like "I Hate Soap Operas" and "Out Of My League" off of their second release YOU'RE A NATION. The songs are slowed down a bit, but this isn't the same band that recorded these songs years ago. They are older, much more mature musicians that wanted their songs to go into a more solid direction as opposed to the nervous energy you felt when listening to earlier albums.
The final track "Nothing to Lose" is an emotional, punk rock song that leaves us with the impression that these guys are happy where they are...making music for the heck of it, because they want to.
If I have to say one bad thing about this album is that it is TOO good. It makes me want to see these guys succeed. It makes me want to read about them in the newspaper playing sold-out shows and headlining The Vans Warped Tour...not going to college. I want to live my life through them, not have them doing the same things I am (which is going to college and having day-jobs). Even though Pete is now the bassist for Yellowcard, it's just not the same, and it never will be. That's too bad for all the fans out there, but it seems to make Inspection 12 happy, and I guess that's all a band can hope for.
Inspection 12 is:
Dan McClintock - Vocals/Bass/Guitars
Pete Mosely - Lead Guitar/Piano/Vocals
Tim Grisnik - Drums/Percussion/Vocals
