This Kiowa Sioux singer is the leader of the Grayhorse Singers, a Native American drum group based out of Tulsa, OK. This popular powwow group has appeared at such events throughout the Indian nations since the '80s. The Grayhorse Singers toured Paris, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Switzerland in 2000. When the events are being held closer to home, inevitably Anquoe is one of the head organizers, a position that has led to some fantastic opportunities. Particularly delightful news is a 2000 clipping from Oklahoma's Indian Times, which is datelined Paris, France: "Ella and Jack Anquoe were whisked away from the airport via limo and taken to a reception in their honor at 9 Rue de Villeneuve, the home of the Mayor of Paris. Forty-one dignitaries were expected to attend." It was all the result of having invited the Mayor of Paris to a powwow in Tulsa the year before. Anquoe also hosted a seminar on Native American music while in Paris as well as visiting several Native Americans imprisoned in France and the graves of one of his brothers killed in action in France during the second World War. Recordings by the Grayhorse Singers have been chosen several times for inclusion in anthologies of native American or world music, including the collections created by Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead.
