Jan Brandts Buys
A member of an extensive family of Dutch musicians, Brandts Buys studied at the Raff-Konservatorium in Frankfurt am Main. He moved to Vienna in 1893 and worked preparing vocal scores for Universal-Edition. His early work was commended by Brahms and Grieg and he won the B"sendorf-Preis for his piano concerto. He composed eight operas as well as orchestral works, organ and chamber pieces. His quartet op. 25 contains impressionistic elements. ~ Lynn Vought, All Music Guide
