Scotland-born piano and accordion player Jan Davis became one of Australia's top folksingers of the 1970s, '80s, and early '90s. An extremely versatile performer, she sang Australian folk tunes with the Red Brick Bush Band and a cappella with Beltane, explored an eclectic range of folk music with the Wayfarers, and shared a duo, Prickly Pear, with singer/songwriter Tony Miles for eight years. Davis also appeared with the six-woman group Tangled Web and the quartet Kintra (shared with Terry Jacob, Phil Brown, and Jim Law of Kitchener's Privates), and has collaborated with John Colville of Scotch Broth, Gerry Farrell and Terry Jacob of Black Velvet, and Pamela Gallagher of Fling Thing. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Davis moved to Australia with her parents in 1973. Drawn to the folk music that she heard as a teenager, she became an active member of the Folk Centre in Brisbane.
