rockfender's Artist Review for Jeff Beck
""
Guitar Legend
Listening to Jeff Beck makes me smile. I smile when he dives out of a solo with a slam of the tremolo bar. I smile when he plays "chicka" chords in the background when the organist is soloing. I smile when I hear him complement Rod Stewart on his earlier albums. I smile when I hear him play a memorable riff from one of his many, spectacular songs.
I smile because I realize that Jeff Beck knows exactly why he plays every single note in every song; everything he does with his guitar has a purpose. He is always changing his style, always trying to put out an album fresher than the last. These traits make him one of the most innovative, original, and most legendary guitar players of all time.
From psychadelia in his Yardbirds days, to blues-rock in his Jeff Beck Group, to jazz fusion throughout the 70s and 80s, to electronica in present day, Jeff Beck always surprises the listener by changing his style. However, he always retains that sound, that "Jeff Beck tone." Anyone can be attracted to this tone, and Beck has released so many different kinds of albums that almost anyone can find what they want to hear.
Even though he never became as popular as Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page or other British guitar players of his era, Jeff Beck is definitely one of the elites. If you are interested in any form of classic rock or jazz fusion, Jeff Beck is for you, or if you just want to find out about great musicians, give any of Jeff Beck's albums a spin. Enjoyment is just a disc away.
