When Johann Sebastian Bach became seriously ill in 1750, the oldest surviving son of J. S. and Anna Magdelena took a position at Buckeburg where he remained until his own death. After the Seven Years War Christoph Friedrich gave concerts twice each week including the music of others as his own was not well taken. At court he became friends with Herder and took to writing music for Herder's poems. Though his performing abilities were virtuosic, his composing skills never reached their full potential; however, later works definitively show the influence of both Haydn and Mozart. The majority of Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach's compositions were for keyboard instruments though his oratorio and choral compositions demonstrated an understanding of how a serious work should unfold. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
