J.P. and the Keystones

I started playing gigs when I was in Junior High School. All ages shows at places like Scarlett O’Hara’s in Bethelehem, PA. I played drums for a band called Blindside. We fell into the “post-punk/hardcore” genre, so I’ve been told. We released numerous recordings. Most of which were available thanks to a small record label from Rhode Island called 1124 Records. That band dissolved upon High School Graduation. I then went on to front a band by the name of Stillwater. We trekked all over the country in a 1979 Chevy van with a couch in the back. Played hundreds of gigs and shared the stage with bands such as Clutch, Snapcase, and Unwritten Law. After Stillwater I found myself in a band called Naskar Nazarene, and then Dragon Green, and the list goes on and on, and all the while I was hoping for more. I needed a challenge. My wife’s granfather handed me a banjo on Easter Sunday, 2005. My challenge had arrived in the form of five strings and three finger picks. The beautiful thing about this challenge was that it took me back to my childhood. Back to the days when my parents would take my brother and I to the Lyons Fiddle Fest, and the Philadelphia Folk Festivals. I soon started a folk/bluegrass band called the Pigeon Creek Wailers. We were playing lots of old traditional songs, and writing some original songs here and there. When our guitarist announced that he wanted to play electric guitar, there were no hard feelings. He had the same need for a challenge that I had when I was playing in all of those electrified bands years before. So, I rounded up some friends and moved on. I started playing mandolin as well as an acoustic guitar that was passed on from the same grandfather that handed me the banjo almost three years ago. These are some of my songs. All of which were recorded in my home. These songs make my little boy dance at home. That makes me real proud. I hope you enjoy them. -John
