Kalaparusha Difda

The outstanding Chicago musician better known as Maurice McIntyre. He was a founding member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1965, and made his recording debut as a sideman on Roscoe Mitchell's album Sound. McIntyre played drums as a child in Chicago, later switching to clarinet and sax and receiving lessons from Warren Smith, Sr. He's performed and recorded with many other AACM members, among them Muhal Richard Abrams. McIntyre worked with Jerome Cooper in the late '60s, then temporarily moved to New York. He came back to Chicago in 1970, then returned to New York in 1974, working again with Cooper into the '80s. McIntyre also worked with Warren Smith, Sonny Smith, Wilber Morris and several other groups. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
