L. Cedeņo is one of the most inventive and eclectic figures in the Los Angeles music scene. He is the epitome of postmodern chic in an era obsessed with junk culture. Drawing upon a kaleidoscope of influences - pop, surf, psychedelia, soundtrack, indie rock, experimental rock, jazz, lounge - Cedeņo is creating a body of work that is at once unpredictable, vibrantly messy, yet coherent and obviously created by a perfectionist. His melodies are pulled together from bits of the past and present, in ways that could only occur to an overexposed pop-culture aficionado. His lyrics are cryptic and laced with imagery that, while typical of the times, adds to the ultra dreamy nature of his music. Bliss Wishes is ambitious, immensely listenable, and in constant flirtation with unexpected glory. Just when you think a song might shatter to the ground in a mess of confused intentions, he hoists it up to the most innovative, victorious resolution...brilliant. Cedeņo uses the album's bookends- "Dream Girl" and "Stunning" to lay bare the ironic, moody melancholy of classic-euro pop. But other than that, this albums' twelve selections are gladly uncategorizable. His voice is wispy enough to waft through any tune but deep and knowing enough to lend heft to his oblique-wordplay. Cedeņo obviously lets the process serve the song - reverb here, lo-fi there, haunting and silky in between. All of the songs on Bliss Wishes spin in disparate spheres, but Cedeņo's aesthetic undercurrent pulls them together...
