Last of the Juanitas
This three-piece math-rock-meets-alternative metal instrumental band supposedly got their name from a bottle of hot sauce. The music is heavy, sludgy, jarring, and melodic all at the same time; comparable to the Melvins colliding with Drive Like Jehu (former Jehu guitarist, Rick Fork, actually appeared on their debut album). Born circa 1998 in the Arizona desert, the band relocated to San Diego and then ultimately settled in Portland. The Last of the Juanitas have released two full-length albums on Flapping Jet Records, in addition to several 7" singles.
