Daniel Swinney began recording tracks as Lemon Drop Kid during a time when he needed a break from his other recordings as Shovelbearer. Where the Shovelbearer recordings had grown increasingly brooding and dark, the Lemon Drop Kid tracks embodied a sense of good old-fashioned fun. Some of the best work of Swinney's recording career resulted. Swinney showcased the original Lemon Drop Kid recordings on Your EP of Choice, which had been secretly recorded and then released as a surprise.
