Lucky Day
Lucky Day is set to release their sophomore effort, “Rise and Fall,” available in May 2008, adding another dimension to their sound. The band will perform not one, but three CD release parties to introduce their fans to a newly-recorded set of original songs. In their short time together, the band has forged a fresh pop/rock sound without ignoring the melodic echoes of the past as The Washington Post put it, "some of the best pop-rock the '60s never heard.” Bursting onto the scene in summer 2005, Lucky Day's blend of urgent hooks, ethereal vocals, and textured guitars were showcased in performances at numerous festivals such as The National Cherry Blossom Festival, The National Capital Barbecue Battle Festival, and the Six Points Music Festival (other bands include Army of Me and Emmet Swimming). The group has developed a loyal fanbase, playing well-known venues such as the Black Cat (DC), The Knitting Factory (NYC), Arlene's Grocery (NYC), Starr Hill Music Hall (Charlottesville, VA), and Mr. Small's Theatre (Pittsburgh, PA). They have embarked on multiple tours up and down the east coast and have also been honored to play U.S.O. events. Lucky Day recorded their 6-song EP with engineer/producer Stewart Myers (Agents of Good Roots, Jason Mraz). Fred Kevorkian (White Stripes, Ryan Adams, Dave Matthews) mastered the EP at Avatar Studios in New York City. The EP garnered praise locally, regionally and beyond from music enthusiasts, DJs, and reviewers alike. The Washington City Paper proclaimed, "Lucky Day creates some of the most ear-pleasing Brit-poppish sounds we've heard in a while." On Tap Magazine said, "...Patchen's crystalline delivery is sure to draw comparisons to Kay Hanley or Vanessa Carlton. Combining a mid-'90s style instrumental assault with the glossy vocal sheen of today's top forty pop, Lucky Day is an agreeable, likeable band that writes catchy songs." According to Cool Noise, UK, "Apart from a great voice, there is a dynamic that Blondie would have been proud of. Six tracks of sensuous melody." The band's songs have been played on numerous terrestrial, internet, and college radio stations (including Z104 and DC101) and podcasts around the country. In addition to their own release, Lucky Day has contributed tracks to A Tribute to Superdrag, and A Tribute to The Lemonheads, released by Double D Records (Nashville, TN). The band’s rendition of “The Art of Dying” was singled out as "sweeping and lush." Lucky Day will celebrate their sophomore release with CD release parties in three regions: Arlene’s Grocery (New York, NY) – Saturday, May 10th, 2008, 8PM IOTA Club & Café (Arlington, VA) – Friday, May 16th, 2008, 8PM Connecticut CD Release Party - TBA Pick up your copies of the “All My Rainy Days” EP and “Rise and Fall” today. It is distributed by various music outlets (Amazon, CDBaby, LoneBoy and iTunes.com). As the Washington City Paper proclaims, "Listening to the band's songs will add to anyone's good fortune."
