Hailing from Berkeley, CA, the jazz ensemble Madhouse is comprised of members Scott Price (keyboards), Don Rowlands (drums), Mark Holzinger (guitar), and Neal Heidler (bass). Holzinger, Heidler, and Rowlands have been longtime fixtures in the San Francisco Bay Area scene, with each member possessing an impressive resume of credits (Holzinger: Marvin Gaye, Joe Williams, Mark Isham, David Benoit, Ricky Lee Jones, Bobby McFerrin, Heidler: John Handy, Richie Cole, Mark Levine, Eddie Harris, Rowlands: Dan Hicks, Ross Valory, Steph Burns, and Lady Bianca). June of 2000 saw the release of Madhouse's debut album, The State We're In, which included special guest appearances by saxophonists Peter Apfelbaum and Chuck Clark, percussionist Jesús Diaz, plus clarinetist Sheldon Brown. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
