Maulidi & Musical Party

With its dance-inspiring blend of Swahili tarabu and chakacha and Indian film pop, Maulidi and Music Party was one of the most popular bands in Kenya during the 1970s and '80s. Led by former Zein Musical Party vocalist Maulidi Juma and bandmaster/keyboardist Mohamed Adio Shigoo, the group was often recruited to play weddings and others in their homeland. The band's sound was enhanced by the dynamic vocals of Zahura Swalek and the future singing sensation, Malika. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
