Michele Lundeen
Earthy, rootsy, robust, from the heart.... A powerful, yet soulful, mesmerizing vocalist and songwriter, Michele Lundeen effortlessly blends classic roadhouse blues, Memphis soul, jump swing, Roots rock, sultry-campy jazz and funk into a satisfying musical stew. While her energetic style is truly all her own, Michele has been compared to artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Etta James and Aretha Franklin. Reaching into the audience with emotional vocals and body language, she’s been dubbed "The Queen of Steam" for her electrifying vocal and stage presence –– Michele Lundeen indeed commands attention. She also enjoys including the audience in an entertaining, musical romp. Michele recently headlined the 1st National Women In Blues Festival in North Carolina, stopped traffic at the BBQ, Brews & Brews in Reno, NV and raised the temperature at the Colorado Belle Blues & Brews Festival in Laughlin, NV. A popular, respected performer for many years in Northern Nevada and Southern California, Michele's appearances at regular showcases in top venues and a long list of high profile festivals and events, has allowed her to establish a strong regional following. She and her 5 pc band are multiple San Diego Music Awards "Best Blues" nominees. They also represented Blues Lovers United of San Diego (BLUSD) in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge (IBC) on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. She's shared stages with dozens of nationally known blues-roots artists, from John Lee Hooker to Elvin Bishop and Savoy Brown to Queen Ida, while gaining a reputation as a talented headliner in her own right. The 5 piece band lineup consists of vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keyboard (or harmonica) with harmonies and sometime incorporate a horn section. Michele is often sought after as a featured artist for special event showcases and also mixes up great chemistry as an acoustic duo or trio. Delivering Blues-roots, rockin’ classic rhythm and blues and soul (ala Aretha, Etta James, Tina, James Brown, Ray Charles), Texas boogie or a little swing, Michele Lundeen and crew add just the right flavors to accent a multitude of events. Growing up in Oakland, CA, music was always the centerpiece and staff of life for Michele. Influenced by Soul artists and moved by that commanding, Gospel/Soul/R&B sound, her own musical expressions exude attitude and confidence but... especially honesty. A gifted interpreter of songs, Michele's hi-energy, live performances help tell her song's stories, and one can visualize that intensity in her recorded work. With a candid, sometimes humorous look at the trials and tribulations of life, her lyrics are poignant, arrangements creative and musicianship top-notch. Michele has also been immersed in the blues scene as a longtime blues editor (award winning Blues Festival Guide, Reno Blues Society, Blues Lovers United of San Diego) and a presenter for Blues In The Schools. As an entertainer as well as a mentor, she believes that music can have a dynamic, positive impact on people's lives on any level. Michele's 12 track debut CD, SONG INSIDE ME, includes nine self-penned originals. This 2005 San Diego Music Awards "Best Blues Album" Nominee was also one of the Blues Foundation's 2006 "Best Self Produced CD" Final Four. The CD features Michele's solid band plus San Francisco Bay Area luminaries such as members and alumni of Elvin Bishop, Etta James bands and more, and a duet with multiple Grammy, W.C. Handy nominee, slide guitar master, Roy Rogers. SONG INSIDE ME hit the airwaves on Triple A and college stations across the U.S. and Canada and abroad in Australia, France, Belgium, England, Spain, Israel, the Netherlands, Belgrade, Italy, Russia, etc. and arrived on an Essential 100 of 2005, several Top 25 and Top 10 charts as well as the Roots Blues Top 50 charts for 10 weeks (Fall 06). With this CD release it's time Michele steps up and shares her talent on a national and international level.
